Office Ukraine. Support for Ukrainian Artists was founded just a few days after the start of Russia’s large-scale war of aggression against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, in violation of international law. The initiative was established to support Ukrainian artists and cultural workers of all disciplines who have been displaced from Ukraine as a result of the ongoing war. As a mediation platform, our aim is to bring Ukrainian artists who need support into contact with those who offer support.

We connect Ukrainian artists and cultural professionals with cultural institutions, initiatives and artists of all disciplines throughout Austria: including museums, galleries, off-spaces, design studios, film initiatives, literature and music, education centers, and many more. We help with the search for exhibition and performance opportunities, studio spaces, jobs and internships. We also use our mailing list to provide information about scholarship opportunities, university application options, artist residencies and open calls, as well as interesting events, and sometimes we offer free tickets to the Ukrainian art community.

The most important goal of Office Ukraine, represented throughout Austria by offices in Vienna (tranzit.at) in the MuseumsQuartier Wien and Graz (< rotor >) (and, until September 2025, in Innsbruck at Künstler*innenhaus Büchsenhausen), is to enable displaced artists and cultural workers to continue their artistic work in their respective fields and to promote long-term artistic collaboration between artists from Ukraine and the Austrian art scene.

Since its inception, the three Office Ukraine locations in Vienna, Graz, and Innsbruck (through September 2025) have (co-)organized approximately 560 in-house and collaborative projects as well as networking events, and have collaborated with approximately 1.300 Ukrainian artists and cultural professionals from across all disciplines through these events, which have taken the form of panel discussions, exhibitions, music and theater projects, and similar initiatives. In total, the events attracted approximately 20.000 visitors. To date, Office Ukraine has collaborated with 388 partners. (As of July 2026)

Office Ukraine. Support for Ukrainian Artists was founded in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport (BMWKMS; formerly BMKOES), civil society, tranzit.at, < rotor >, Künstler*innenhaus Büchsenhausen, springerin and other initiatives.

Our Statement

Austria sees itself as a culturally rich and open-minded country, in which diverse, experimental and critical art is always welcome. Austrian cultural policy is guided by a democratic and solidary worldview according to which artists, regardless of their national origin, sexual orientation or social background, deserve respect and the opportunity to create their art freely and protected by the constitutional right to freedom of expression and in accordance with the applicable laws. There is no place for any form of discrimination that runs counter to these principles.

Office Ukraine was created in this spirit at the beginning of March 2022. Initiated by the Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport (BMWKMS/ formerly BMKOES), together with representatives of the Austrian art scene, Office Ukraine was established to support artists and cultural producers who have fled to Austria from Ukraine due to Russia’s large-scale invasion. Since then, Office Ukraine has developed into a long-term support initiative and mediation platform that continues to accompany and support Ukrainian artists and cultural professionals in Austria through networking, consulting, professional mediation, providing concrete support and, where possible, donations. All persons working at Office Ukraine strongly oppose Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. They are committed to supporting displaced colleagues in continuing their artistic and professional practice by every means possible. In all teams of Office Ukraine in Vienna, Graz and, until September 2025, Innsbruck, there are people with diverse origins and personal histories.

Office Ukraine appreciates any support from people who want to help the Ukrainian art and culture community in Austria in a sustainable way and want to be part of our team - regardless of their origin. All members of the Office Ukraine teams in Vienna and Graz (and formerly Innsbruck) work exclusively in this spirit and have demonstrated since 2022 through their activities a strong commitment to the interests of Ukrainian artists and cultural producers in Austria. As a platform anchored in the Austrian cultural landscape, our work is guided exclusively by democratic and solidary values and we condemn any form of discrimination and violence. While the consequences of Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine continue to affect artists and cultural workers, we remain committed to fostering an open, diverse and critical cultural scene in Austria, promoting artistic freedom, dialogue and long-term collaboration, of which many Ukrainian colleagues have become an integral part.
